About the Position: The Fort Gregg-Adams Fire and Emergency Services Division exists to protect the lives, safety, environment, and property of all persons in the community and surrounding areas we serve; to educate, inform, and enforce life safety. Duties

Conduct plan reviews for new construction and renovation of existing structures to determine fire prevention measures. Inspect structures during construction or renovation to ensure adherence to the terms of the contract regarding fire safety. Conduct pre-fire planning to identify potentially hazardous occupied areas. Ensure compliance with fire safety codes. Develop inspection schedules to ensure that all facilities are inspected by fire prevention and suppression personnel. Perform fire prevention inspections in areas where fire hazards are expected to be encountered. Employ proper techniques and equipment to establish initial on scene control. Use personal protective gear in situations where hazardous items are involved. Explain corrective actions that are necessary to bring properties into compliance with applicable fire codes. Relay fire protection and prevention objectives to individuals or groups. Conduct fire prevention and protection training classes. Educate the public on fire prevention practices.

Requirements

  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires you to meet physical fitness requirements as directed by current regulatory guidance.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Position requires incumbent to work a minimum of a 60-hour week, with one 24-hour shift.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • This position has a mandatory Hepatitis B immunization requirement.
  • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position requires participation in the Division Wellness Program.
  • This position requires you to obtain and maintain a valid Emergency Vehicle Operators certification within 12 months of employment.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
