Duties
Establish fire prevention inspection program goals and objectives to comply with regulatory or lawful requirements.
Manage fire prevention and protection programs to comply with Army Regulations.
Examine fire protection system plans and specifications to ensure they are compatible with building and site plans.
Monitor construction and renovation projects during construction phase to ensure compliance with blueprints and specifications.
Ensure that on-site inspection on new construction or maintenance projects are conducted to recommend appropriate fire prevention equipment.
Review engineering plans and specifications for new construction or alteration of existing structures to provide technical assistance on fire prevention requirements.
Align employee performance plans with organization mission and goals to ensure clear understanding of requirements.
Administer minor disciplinary measures to promote conformance with organizational policies and a healthy work environment.
Assure the timely accomplishment of security and related inspection work.
Check work progress and make day-to-day adjustments based on work priorities.
Instruct employees in specific tasks and job techniques and provide on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures.
Answer questions of employees on procedures and regulatory directives and obtain decisions and information on problems
Evaluate performance of members to determine effectiveness of training and provide advice and assistance to improve performance.
Requirements
- This is a supervisory position and a one year probationary period to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position requires heavy physical effort in the frequent handling of objects such as hoses, cylinders, and extinguishers weighing 45 lbs. or more.
- This position requires you to meet all physical fitness requirements as directed by current regulatory guidance.
- This position requires participation in the Division Wellness Program.
- Work schedule is a 60-hour workweek, and incumbent is required to work one night over each week.
- Must be DOD Certified as Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector III and Hazardous Material Incident Commander.
- This position is subject to random drug testing IAW AR 600-85. Applicant selected must sign DA Form 5019-R and must pass urinalysis testing as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
- Must be able to pass pre-appointment and subsequent periodic medical examinations in accordance with Department of Defense (DoD) 6055.5M to determine fitness for continued performance of the duties of the position.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position requires you to obtain and maintain a valid Emergency Vehicle Operators certification within 12 months of employment.
- This position requires use of all safety equipment and clothing provided by management.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time. TDY travel is occasionally required.
- Employees assigned are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk.
- Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; rescue operations; detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards; controlling hazardous materials incidents; developing, implementing, and providing training in fire protection and prevention to include chemical and physical properties of fire, firefighting techniques, rescue techniques and procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the first lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
