Duties
As a Military Allowance Specialist within the Compensation Division, you will be developing recommendations for Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) Secretarial Process determinations; coordination of Coast Guard participation in the annual Military Housing Office (MHO) data survey; liaison with the Office of Secretary of Defense, Compensation Directorate; and providing Coast Guard representation on Department of Defense (DoD) advisory councils for housing allowance and subsistence allowance (BAS) policy review groups.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
GS-12 - You qualify if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal, State, or Local government or equivalent public or private sector experience. Specialized experience includes: advising on matters relating to policy development for military allowances; reviewing and assisting with preparing legislative, policy, or regulatory proposals/changes in an organization; drafting strategic written communications for Agency-wide distribution; assisting with data analyses related to military compensation; AND drafting Agency Headquarters-level interpretations and determinations of policy.
Education can/cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.
National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
