As a Housekeeping Aid (Specialized Cleaning), you will perform work which requires physical ability and effort that involves specialized cleaning skills working and providing guidance of cleaning methods for non-critical Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) of the Lebanon VA Medical Center.

Duties

Duties will consist of, but are not limited to: Performing a full range of duties essential to supporting the reprocessing of non-critical RME throughout the medical center.- Observing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for pick-up and delivery for non-critical RME, cleaning all items considered non-critical RME and using the necessary precautions and protective equipment to prevent cross contamination. Observing safety rules in transporting soiled non-critical RME; transports items using appropriate transportation methods. Observing proper protocol for separation of clean/sterile and contaminated items to avoid the possibility of cross contamination. Being familiar with which items are reprocessed locally (on unit) and/or which items are sent to Sterile Processing for reprocessing and/or sterilization. Understanding the importance in reprocessing of RME and the significant impact on our Veteran population through the risk of infectious disease. Performing a range of housekeeping aid duties within the medical center and may be rotated through or assigned to any of the approved tours of duty Maintaining assigned areas in a sanitary manner through adhering to service procedures/policies and cleaning outlines. Assisting in on-the-job training of new housekeeping aids and to guide them in completion of specific tasks. Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, weekends as needed. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/22/2024. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The employee usually stands and moves from one area to another within the facility while performing duties. There is a frequent requirement for lifting packages and pushing carts weighing 25 pounds or more. There will also be repetitive arm motions while cleaning and also repetitive bending while cleaning. Incumbent will be physically able to remain engaged in manual work requiring moderately heavy physical effort during their entire tour of duty. Covers the physical effort exerted in performing assigned work. Positions vary in such ways as the nature, degree, frequency, and duration of muscular effort or physical strain experienced in work performance. On a regular and recurring basis, the employee alternates between a contaminated environment and a carefully controlled clean environment: in both, the employee wears special clothing which can be uncomfortably warm. While handling contaminated medical supplies, the employee also uses rubber gloves. The work area is often hot and humid. The employee is subject to slipping on wet floors. The employee may experience exposure toblood-borne pathogens, bodily fluids, mucosal excretions which may be foul smelling, and other potentially infectious materials. Incumbent usually works indoors in areas which normally have adequate light and ventilation. They work around patients who have health problems and is subject to exposure to disease vectors normally seen in a hospital setting. They is also exposed to strong cleaning solutions which may irritate skin, provoke allergic reactions, etc.
