The Housekeeping Aid Work Leader will perform all tasks and duties of a Housekeeping Aid employee under the Shift Supervisor at Lebanon VAMC. This position is about leading Housekeeping Aid employees and helping the supervisor coordinate the work to achieve organizational day to day objectives for EMS Services. The position leads three (3) or more employees (and/or CWT employees) and will set the pace of work for those employees. This position has no supervisory authority.

Duties

The position is guided by EMS and medical center policies and procedures, VA regulations and verbal instructions from EMS management. The incumbent is an expert with EMS work that he or she may be tasked to guide new and existing employees, help with training, issue and collect keys, communicate assignment instructions on behalf of the EMS supervisors and then validates the completion of the work assigned. This position sets the pace of each task, demonstrates methods and techniques and provides direction to assigned employees in their proper usage in cleaning supplies and equipment. Ensures all tasks are complete and deadlines are met. Assists the Housekeeping Supervisor to accomplish a vast array of service tasks and has the authority to accomplish day-to-day operational requirements. Accomplishes priorities, deadlines, and establishes work schedules and methods based upon policies and processes established by EMS. The Housekeeping Aid Leader engages with all employees to provide purpose, direction and motivation in accomplishing all tasks, while training the employee in proper procedures and techniques to meet or exceed desired outcomes of workload and safety. Assists the Housekeeping Supervisor with key control within the department. Inspects and monitors standards of quality and quantity of services to provide guidance and assistance to subordinates. Actively support administrative timekeeping processes to keep subordinates' complaint the timekeeping system. Identifies and acts to address recurring and non-recurring training needs. Conducts work assignment huddles and communicates general information to include safety, EEO and all information directed by upper management. The incumbent must be able to follow oral and written instructions. The incumbent will receive instructions from his/her supervisor. The incumbent must be able to accurately relay instructions and directions to Housekeeping Aid employees. Likewise, also listens to employees and take these messages to produce results. It is expected that a work leader helps shuttle supplies to and from secure work areas. The incumbent independently locates the work essentials. The incumbent performs other duties as assigned including covering for his/her supervisor when needed. Work Schedule: 3rd Shift Sunday through Thursday 10:00pm to 6:30am, Weekends and Holidays as Required. Shifts starting after 10pm are eligible for differential bonus. The incumbent, although assigned a primary work schedule, may need to work variable shifts if needed to provide full monitoring of EMS programs and provide consistent obligations for staff performing duties and responsibilities in a service line which operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Position Description Title/PD#: Housekeeping Aid (Leader)/PD99913A Physical Requirements: This position requires occasional bending/stooping, crouching, and kneeling. Lifting up to 50 pounds. Approximately 40 percent of time spent standing, 40 percent of time spent walking and 20 percent of time spent sitting. Hearing and visual acuity. Manual dexterity to use a phone and operate equipment. The work is accomplished in a variety of different areas including operating rooms, treatment rooms, examination rooms, imaging rooms, wards and other public, recreational and administrative areas. Protective clothing and personnel protective equipment (PPE) including gowns, gloves, safety shoes, masks, etc. is required in the accomplishment of some aspects of the work. There is the potential for exposure to strong cleaning solutions, bodily fluids and communicable disease. The work can involve occupied patient rooms and interaction with both medical and psychiatric patients. May be required to work inside and outside in all weather conditions. May require some exposure to hazardous cleaning chemicals.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
