You will serve as a SUPERVISORY SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY AND HEALTH DEPARTMENT of SOUTHWEST REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CENTER.

Duties

You will assist in formulating negotiations with regulatory agencies, contractors and Navy commands in the establishment of achievable and timely compliance dates. You will plan, organize and administer a scheduled series of inspections of shipboard or shop locations of structural repairs, welding, painting, electrical repairs and metal shop fabrication. You will apply methods, techniques and abatements to control and eliminate unsafe acts or conditions that arise from the introduction of new equipment and the construction or modification of ship structures. You will provide safety assessments of contractor facilities to identify potential facility deficiencies, evaluate impact and discuss plans for corrective actions. You will supervise day-to-day schedules, responsibilities and action items for branch employees necessary to ensure civilian contractors maintain an Occupational Safety and Health program.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • MSP/PPP applicants must currently hold the required security clearance.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Conducting inspections of ships or shipyard work operations to develop written reports identifying and eliminating unsafe acts or conditions in accordance with safety and occupational health standards.
