The Incumbent primarily serves as the Program Support Assistant to the Community Referral and Resource Center and provides some administrative support to Homeless Veteran Comprehensive Program and Social Work Service at the Michael E DeBakey VA Medical Center. The Community and Resource and Referral Center is the Coordination Intake Hub for all Veterans and their families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Duties
Collects, compiles, and tracks data and statistical information in support of the program.
Reviews documents; reports & ensures data entry is complete & accurate.
Enters pertinent information into computer tracking system.
Uses communication skills to clearly relay information to customers & Veterans entering the facility for services.
Receives and screens patients, visitors and telephone calls in courteous, pleasant, & dependable manner.
Provides correct information and directs people to correct resources when needed whether by person or telephone.
Maintains and manages databases which contain a wide variety of Veterans & Homeless program specific information.
Maintains administrative reports control system, notifying responsible party before report is due to ensure submission in accordance with guidelines.
Assists with special projects in support of program development & activities.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm (Subject to change based on the needs of the Agency)

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/22/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-5 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-4. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Excellent interpersonal & Communication skills
Advanced knowledge of and experience with computers
Experience with military populations & homeless services that aid these populations.
Experience working within a medical/psychiatric environment.
Time management skills
OR
Education: Substitution of 4 years above high school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. (transcripts required).
OR
Combination of Specialized Experience and Education: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: Performing activities such as sitting, walking, standing, bending and carrying items such as books, papers and files are required. When carrying out job related duties, it may be necessary for the incumbent to travel to MEDVAMC and/or into the community to meet with Veterans, their families, community partners, internal/external stakeholders and other representatives to complete official job related duties. The incumbent must possess a current driver's license, adhere to all VHA/MEDVAMC directives and training requirements when operating a government vehicle to carry out official duties when deemed necessary.
