The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a first level supervisor, providing planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over nonsupervisory employees assigned to Fire Alann Communications Center, Fire Protection Flight, Altus AFB, OK.

Duties

Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the Fire Alarm Communications Center (FACC), ensuring that the FACC complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities for (4-5) civilian and/or military Fire Alarm Communication Center Dispatchers, GS-2151-05s. Represents the Fire Protection Flight with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Executes the FACC Logistics Program, ensures the Logistics Program complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.

  • "This is a Supervisory Position." A 1-year supervisory probationary period is required if applicant selected has not previously met this requirement.
  • Incumbent is required to work an alternate work schedule which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including weekends and holidays). May be required to perform temporary duty travel by military or commercial air.
  • Incumbent is required to perform critical services regardless of weather conditions or base closure and report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled work time.
  • May be required to respond on off-duty time during a conflagration or stay over until an emergency has been terminated or until properly relieved by a qualified operator. Subject to telephone recall for emergency or exercise contingencies.
  • Works in close harmony with supervisors, co-workers, and others during day-to-day routines and during emergencies. Is required to maintain 'good working relationships with on (cont'd)

  • Incumbent must be able to obtain Telecommunicator Level I and II and Hazardous Materials Awareness Certification within 6 months of appointment.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification within 90 days of appointment.
  • Must participate in exercises by relaying accurate information. Must be resourceful and alert to adequately perform duties.
  • Incumbent must obtain Hazardous Materials Awareness certification within 60 days of appointment.
  • Incumbent must become Government Purchase Card qualified within 180 days of appointment.
  • Requires wearing a prescribed uniform and maintaining a professional appearance.
  • This position is not covered as a rigorous position under the federal Firefighter's Retirement System's special retirement.
  • Incumbent is required to keep a current phone number/address on file for re-call purposes.
  • Requires access to information and areas up to and including Secret.

Qualifications

Continued Conditions of Employment This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. The employee must obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance. Incumbent must stay current with National Incident Management System (NIMS). In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Clerical and Administrative Support Positions for Dispatching Series, 2151. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of Fire Protection Flight/Fire Alarm Communications Center policy and procedures to include assigned vehicles, firefighting equipment and communication devices. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-08 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Fire Protection Flight/Fire Alarm Communications Center policy and procedures to include assigned vehicles, firefighting equipment and communication devices. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small sized organization. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing using a calm and stable demeanor while dealing with emergency situations. Ability to understand, use and maintain directories, personnel lists and other guides and references. Knowledge of Fire Protection Flight logistics requirements and Information for Management, Planning, Analysis, and Coordination (IMPAC) card holder responsibilities. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
