The Lead Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) within the Emergency Department (ED) is assigned to the Puget Sound VA Health Care System in Seattle, WA; serves as an advanced technician for the ED for patients who are present for treatment while also serving as an ICT position subject matter expert (SME), mentor, monitor, and coach for ICTs; and, may assist with or perform other related approved technical health care procedures under the direction and supervision of the licensed personnel.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement, 01/22/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-08.

Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR): An IOR is a basic requirement that must be met in order to qualify for the 0640 occupational series.
GS-08 Minimum Requirement:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Coordinate work and advocate for the needs of Veterans and healthcare programs; educate program managers and their staff on the visions, values, and delivery of Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) services; leading a team in identifying, distributing, and balancing workload; creates team work flow, assist with patient screening, and clinical tasks; identify training needs and assists in the training development. Your experience must be detailed in your resume to receive full credit.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Preferred Qualification: ICTs are advanced Health Technicians who have graduated from intensive specialized military medical training programs and served as combat medics, medical technicians, and corpsman. They possess fundamental knowledge, background and experience in emergency medicine, critical care, medical readiness, field medicine, bedside care, and primary care. Veterans, transitioning servicemembers, National Guard, and Reserve military Corpsmen, Combat Medics, and Medical Technicians interested in Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) positions.
Physical Requirements: The work requires a level of physical fitness that allows for standing for extended periods, heavy lifting to position patients, and manual dexterity to perform clinical procedures. The work will require recurrent bending, lifting, stooping, standing, squatting, stretching, sitting and walking.
Work Environment: On a regular and recurring basis, employee is exposed to infection and contagious diseases the use of universal precautions.
