About the Position: Supervise employees, directly or through work leaders, who operate one or more types of gasoline or diesel powered backhoes, heavy-duty pay loader, dump truck with a loading capacity of 12-ton, and road grader for the Interment Operations Branch in Arlington National Cemetery, exercising full supervisory responsibility for control over work operations supervised.
Duties
Plan daily and weekly schedules and sequences of operations for subordinates.
Establish deadlines and priorities on the basis of general work schedules and methods and policies established by higher levels of supervision.
Explain work requirements, methods and procedures, instructs subordinates in new procedures and provides advice when problems arise.
Coordinate work of unit with other units that may be involved.
Determine equipment, supplies, and equipment at work sites as needed.
Counsel employees on problems; adjusts informal complaints through discussion with employee and union representatives.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must possess and retain a valid state drivers license and must pass testing for and retain a government drivers license. May be required to transport others in and around the cemetery.
- This is a Mission Essential (ME) position and is occupied by an agency designated Emergency employee. Incumbent is expected to report to or remain at worksite during weather closure situations.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT OPERATOR SUPERVISOR without more than normal supervision- assigning work and providing technical direction to employees; supervising employees who operate one or more types of gasoline or diesel powered backhoes, heavy-duty pay loaders and dump trucks with a loading capacity of 12-ton, and road graders; observing work in progress to anticipate and resolve problems. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORTS- Exerts strenuous physical effort in frequently adjusting and maneuvering equipment/attachments; subject to constant reaching, bending, turning, and moving of hands, arms, feet and legs. Subject to strain caused by vibrations of equipment and attachments. Occasionally incumbent may be required to lift headstones or sections of pipe with assistance up to 50 pounds per individual.
WORKING CONDITIONS- Works in all types of weather on various surfaces, often in an open drivers seat. Subject to constant exposure to noise, vibration, dust, dirt fumes and injury when moving heavy items into place.
