Duties
If selected at the GS-09 level, duties will be performed in a developmental capacity:
Independently interprets for deaf and or hearing impaired employees, customers, and or applicants using American Sign Language (ASL), Sign English(SE), and Pidgin Sign English (PSE).
Acts as liaison between DLA and DSCC tenant organizations, local, state, and Federal agencies with regards to persons with hearing impairments.
Serves as an EEO Reasonable Accommodation Coordinator that assists Contracting Officer Representative (COR) with Interpreting and CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) external vendor payment coordination.
Maintains scheduling and coordination of vendor services regarding ASL Interpreting/CART services.
Receives, maintains, reviews, and analyzes personal identifying documentation submitted for decision regarding reasonable accommodation requests.

Qualifications
To qualify for a Equal Employment Specialist (ASL Interpreter), your resume and supporting documentation must support:
A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-11 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. To qualify at the GS-9 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including minimum qualifications and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:
GS:09
Interpreting in a wide range of settings (formal and informal meetings, ceremonies, performance evaluations, grievances, seminars, and training programs, etc.) American Sign Language (ASL), Signed English (SE), or Pidgin Sign English (PSE)
Works in coordination with associates, supervisors, managers, and or EEO personnel specialists to analyze jobs requirements to determine whether duties can be modified to accommodate hearing impaired individuals.
GS:11
Interpreting in a wide range of settings (formal and informal meetings, ceremonies, performance evaluations, grievances, seminars, and training programs, etc.) American Sign Language (ASL), Signed English (SE), or Pidgin Sign English (PSE).
Independently advises associates and or management on matters of complaints and allegations involving deaf or hard of hearing employees to reach an understanding and resolution.
Independently analyzes job requirements in coordination with associates, supervisors, managers, and or EEO personnel specialists to determine whether duties can be modified to accommodate hearing impaired individuals.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
