This position is located in the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), Administrative Review Board (ARB).

Duties

Exercises independent judgment in considering and deciding appeals and other matters which come before the ARB as required by law and any applicable regulations. Signs decisions with which they agree or take such action as appropriate including that of writing concurring and/or dissenting opinions. Exercises independent judgment in discharging his/her duties and responsibilities as required by law and any applicable regulations. Included therein are the following responsibilities, exercised jointly by the Chair, Vice-Chair and the ARB Members: establishing general policies for the ARB's operations, promulgation of Rules of Practice and Procedure for all persons appearing before the ARB in the performance of its appellate review authority, participation at the Board case conferences and at oral arguments in cases where the ARB has agreed to hear such arguments, and all other responsibilities necessary for the orderly and efficient disposition of all matters properly before the ARB.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen. Subject to financial disclosure requirements. Candidate required to obtain the necessary security/investigation level. Must complete 2-year probationary period, if not previously completed.

Qualifications

To be deemed qualified, candidates must submit a complete application and possess technical and management experience having developed the knowledge and skills required for effective performance of the specific duties of the position. Candidates must have specialized experience at a major management level (normally equivalent to the GS-15 level in the federal service). Applicants must meet all legal and regulatory requirements. Reference the Required Documents section for additional requirements. Specialized Experience: The applicant must have at least ten (10) years of relevant employment laws and the appeals process experience as well as have the ability to interpret regulations and to come to a consensus to determine an overall appeals determination with members of the ARB.

Education

This position has a Positive Education Requirement. Applicants must possess a J.D. and will be required to provide an original copy of their transcripts if selected. Applicants are required to be active members of the Bar in any US State or US Territory Court under the U.S. Constitution. Documentation of Bar License will be required before selection.

You must provide a copy of your transcripts from an accredited institution. Any applicant falsely claiming an academic degree from an accredited school will be subject to actions ranging from disqualification from federal employment to removal from federal service.
If your education was completed at a foreign college or university, you must show comparability to education received inaccredited educational institutions in the United States and comparability to applicable minimum coursework requirements for this position.
