About the Position: Incumbent serves as a senior Safety & Occupational Health (S&OH) Specialist for the Army Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque District.

Duties

Inspects USACE-owned and operated facilities as well as public recreation areas to identify safety and health hazards. Conducts construction safety inspections at a wide variety of diverse and complex military and/or civil works construction projects including marine work (dredging; stream bank protection); dam reconstruction etc. Collaborates with design engineers, geologists, biologists, chemists, and other specialists in the development of project plans, designs, and specifications to ensure the safety of District employees, contractors, and the general public. Reviews contractor and government near miss incidents and accident reports to ensure information is thorough, casual factors identified, and appropriate control measures recommended to prevent reoccurrence. Develops and conducts training on various safety and occupational health topics.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Business Travel (TDY) of up to 25% required.
  • Pre-Employment physical required.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain a Safety and Occupational Health CP/FC-12 Certificate.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized specialized experience related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, which includes experience with Construction Safety and Occupational Health; reviewing contractor's safety program proposals to ensure conformance with safety standards, procedures and codes, recommending changes and modifications as required; making on-site safety surveys of resident office programs to determine prescribed safety procedures and standards are being applied as well as advising on various problems which might arise in the area of safety with project and contract personnel; surveying that includes unique problems requiring solutions based on the application of professional safety and health skills, practices, and principles in making recommendations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: CommunicationsPolicy DevelopmentProgram ManagementSafety and Health Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
