THIS IS A TITLE 32 DUAL STATUS POSITION DUTY LOCATION: 103d Maintenance Squadron (MXS), East Granby, CT AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION: Area 1: All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel of the CTANG. Area 2: All currently employed full-time temporary technician personnel and all current traditional members of the CTANG. Area 3: Individuals eligible for membership in the CTANG. Membership must be satisfied within four (4) months of selection.

Duties

JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to serve as shop chief over a small organizational segment in a maintenance function with responsibility for the overall shop operation. One or more employees who perform work in the Aircraft Pneudraulic Systems Mechanic, WG-8268-10, occupation are assigned to the shop. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Air National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Connecticut Air National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Connecticut Air National Guard. The major duties include, but are not limited to: Plans and lays out work to be accomplished in the shop which is then completed by the technician and lower graded mechanic(s). Performs the full range of shop work. Implements safety regulatory requirements. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises. Determines approaches, methods and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside, in inclement weather; on icy, wet, and slippery ramps; aircraft surfaces and work stands; and in temperature and humidity extremes. Subject to dangers from exposure to toxic fumes, high pressure air and fluids, fast actuating metal aircraft surfaces; such as landing gears, speed brakes, missile doors and flaps, engine noise, heat blast, intake suction; rotating propellers; explosive munitions; electrical voltage cartridge actuating devices; liquid oxygen, fire or explosion of aircraft fuels, lubricants, paints, and solvents. Requires moderate to strenuous physical exertion when climbing, stooping, standing, bending, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required to sit, stand, stoop, bend, stretch and work in cramped, tiring, uncomfortable positions. Subject to high intensity and higher frequency sounds that impose a physical burden. May be required to lift and/or push heavy equipment and components weighing from 20 to 50 pounds and occasionally up to approximately 100 pounds.

  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • Must meet Compatible Military Assignment within one year from placement.
  • Wear of the military uniform is mandatory.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates your knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles; knowledge of troubleshooting procedures used to isolate malfunctions in aircraft pneudraulic systems; and ability to use technical manuals, equipment specifications, and test calibration procedures in performing the work. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 18 months of specialized experience in the following: Experience or training which provided a knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles. Experience in fabricating fuel, oil and vacuum hose lines. Experience in servicing, maintaining, disassembling assembling, repairing and testing hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Experience in diagnosing malfunctions and overhauling pneudraulic accessories by disassembling, cleaning part and examining parts. Experience in diagnosing trouble and determining remedies. Experience in repairing, rebuilding and overhauling major systems of ground equipment and pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Experience in mechanical repairs using hand tools and test equipment. Experience that demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications and publications. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles that apply to aircraft systems. Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic principles, the physical laws governing the behavior of fluids (liquids and gasses). Ability to jack aircraft and perform checks. Knowledge of aircraft structure and the relationship of aircraft pneudraulic systems and ability to operate test panels and ground power equipment. Knowledge of aircraft pneudraulic systems and pneudraulic equipment used in maintaining and checking aircraft neudraulic equipment. Knowledge of trouble shooting procedures designed to isolate malfunctions in aircraft pneudraulic systems. Skill in servicing, repairing and maintaining pneudraulic ground equipment. Ability to service, repair and maintain pneudraulic ground equipment. Knowledge of and skill in the repair, and rebuilding of ground equipment pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Skill to use common hand tools and test equipment. Ability to interpret technical manuals, illustrations, specifications diagrams and schematics to make repairs and modifications. Ability to plan and accomplish a functional shop maintenance program. Skill in surveillance and troubleshooting techniques. COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of AFSC. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training.
