THIS IS A TITLE 32 DUAL STATUS POSITION DUTY LOCATION: 103d Maintenance Squadron (MXS), East Granby, CT AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION: Area 1: All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel of the CTANG. Area 2: All currently employed full-time temporary technician personnel and all current traditional members of the CTANG. Area 3: Individuals eligible for membership in the CTANG. Membership must be satisfied within four (4) months of selection.

Duties

JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to perform on- and/or off-equipment maintenance on assigned aircraft pneudraulic systems, components and related aerospace ground equipment. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Air National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Connecticut Air National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Connecticut Air National Guard. The major duties include, but are not limited to: Performs maintenance and operational and functional checks on assigned pneudraulic systems. Performs installation, modification, and/or repair of aircraft pneudraulic systems. Performs organizational and field level maintenance to include periodic, phase time, calendar, unscheduled, and special inspection. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations such as ORI, IG and UE inspections, mobility, and command support exercises. Troubleshoots, removes, inspects, installs, repairs, modifies, rebuilds, and/or tests pneudraulic systems and components for aircraft pneudraulic systems, associated ground support equipment, and/or related test equipment. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside, in inclement weather; on icy, wet, and slippery ramps; aircraft surfaces and work stands; and in temperature and humidity extremes. Subject to dangers from exposure to toxic fumes, high pressure air and fluids, fast actuating metal aircraft surfaces; such as landing gears, speed brakes, missile doors and flaps, engine noise, heat blast, intake suction; rotating propellers; explosive munitions; electrical voltage cartridge actuating devices; liquid oxygen, fire or explosion of aircraft fuels, lubricants, paints, and solvents. Requires moderate to strenuous physical exertion when climbing, stooping, standing, bending, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required to sit, stand, stoop, bend, stretch and work in cramped, tiring, uncomfortable positions. Subject to high intensity and higher frequency sounds that impose a physical burden. May be required to lift and/or push heavy equipment and components weighing from 20 to 50 pounds and occasionally up to approximately 100 pounds.

Requirements

  • National Guard Membership is required.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • Must meet Compatible Military Assignment within one year from placement.
  • Wear of the military uniform is mandatory.
  • Direct Deposit is mandatory.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates your knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles; knowledge of troubleshooting procedures used to isolate malfunctions in aircraft pneudraulic systems; and ability to use technical manuals, equipment specifications, and test calibration procedures in performing the work. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 12 or 18 months of specialized experience in the following: WG-08 REQUIRES 12 MONTHS: Experience or training which provided a knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles. Experience in fabricating fuel, oil and vacuum hose lines. Experience in servicing, maintaining, disassembling assembling, repairing and testing hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Experience in diagnosing malfunctions and overhauling pneudraulic accessories by disassembling, cleaning part and examining parts. Experience in diagnosing trouble and determining remedies. Experience in servicing, maintaining, disassembling, assembling and repairing pneudraulic ground equipment. Experience using hand tools and test equipment. Experience that demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications and publications. WG-10 REQUIRES 18 MONTHS: Experience or training which provided a knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles. Experience in fabricating fuel, oil and vacuum hose lines. Experience in servicing, maintaining, disassembling assembling, repairing and testing hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Experience in diagnosing malfunctions and overhauling pneudraulic accessories by disassembling, cleaning part and examining parts. Experience in diagnosing trouble and determining remedies. Experience in repairing, rebuilding and overhauling major systems of ground equipment and pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Experience in mechanical repairs using hand tools and test equipment. Experience that demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications and publications. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic principles and physical laws governing the behavior of liquids and gases is required. Knowledge of aircraft pneudraulic systems and equipment used to maintain and check aircraft pneudraulic equipment. Knowledge of aircraft structures and the relationship of aircraft pneudraulic systems to the structure and to other aircraft systems. Knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles. Knowledge of and ability to troubleshoot malfunctions and make necessary adjustments and repairs. Ability to plan work sequence and read and interpret technical orders, manufacturers' specification manuals, schematics, etc. Ability to use hand tools, jigs, and fixtures and skill in operating special tools is required. COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of AFSC. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training. MILITARY GRADE (Prior to Application): Enlisted: E-3 through E-6 UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: 103d MXG or any subordinate unit MANPOWER NUMBER: 1050-578 POSITION SEQUNECE NUMBER: 1002464 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. STATEMENT OF DIFFERENCE: Individual selected at a lower level will be issued a Statement of Difference. Predicated upon qualifications, individual could be hired at the WG-10 grade. An individual selected for this position at the lower grade will progressively be advanced to WG-10 upon achievement of required qualifications without further competition.
