About the Position: The U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command, headquartered in North Chicago, Illinois, is a jointly staffed command, staffed by representatives of all branches of the Armed Forces. The command, through its 65 military processing locations (Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS)/Remote Processing Stations (RPS)), determines whether applicants are qualified for enlistment based on standards set by each of the services.
Duties
Manage, advise, and motivate a team of Inspector Generals and support personnel to meet objectives.
Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates; assign work to subordinates based on priorities; and evaluate work performance of subordinates.
Define and develop inspector general (IG) operating policies, procedures, and schedules.
Establish project plans to meet organizational IG objectives.
Enforce standards and policies for IG inspections, investigations, inquiries, and training.
Review inspection reports, identify trends, assign new efforts, and coordinate task priorities.
Act as a subject matter expert and mentor to subordinates on IG policies and procedures.
Analyze, plan, develop, and maintain policies, procedures, and tools to ensure the integrity, availability, and confidentiality of sensitive IG cases.
Receive and analyze all incoming complaints to include referrals from Department of the Army IG, Department of Defense Hotline complaints and Whistleblower Reprisal allegations.
Document findings, efficiently summarize oral interviews, and prepare executive summaries and formal inspection reports.
Recommend solutions to systemic problems.
Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 50% of the time.
- This position requires the incumbent to successfully graduate from the Department of Defense (DoD) Joint Inspector General School within 120 days of entering the position and to maintain certification thereafter in accordance with agency guidance.
- This position requires the incumbent to practice Inspector General (IG) attributes as mandatory requirements for continued employment as a Department of the Army IG.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
