About the Position: The U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command, headquartered in North Chicago, IL, is a jointly staffed command, staffed by representatives of all branches of the Armed Forces. The command, through its 67 military processing locations (Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS)/Remote Processing Stations (RPS), determines whether applicants are qualified for enlistment based on standards set by each of the services.
This will be filled on a permanent basis.
Duties
As an Inspector General, you will:
Liaise with internal/external personnel to disseminate information concerning assigned programs.
Conduct Inspector General (IG) inspections/investigations encompassing all facets of operational processing and DoD Military Enlistment Testing Program.
Analyze subordinate elements use of automated data systems.
Utilize standardized IG procedures to accomplish mission.
Identify deficiencies with assigned programs and recommend corrective actions.
Utilize IG inspection processes to determine problems.
Compile inspection results/management analysis for review by the Command.
Compose finalized IG reports.
Provide guidance to command staff on adherence to Internal Review Directives.
Brief senior management on inspection results/findings/recommendations.
Train subordinate staff on program requirements/processes.
*** These duties are described at the full performance level GS-11. If selected at the GS-09 level, the position will be developmental and eligible for non-competitive promotion to the GS-11 when qualifications are met and recommended by management.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has been designated as non-critical sensitive as defined in DoD 5200.2-R, and requires you to possess, or obtain and maintain for the duration of employment, a Secret security clearance.
- This position requires you to have successfully graduated from the DoD Inspector General School within 6 months of assignment and maintain certification in accordance with AR 20-1 dated 3-July-2012.
- Travel is required approximately 50% of the time, travel is throughout the United States, including Puerto Rico.
Qualifications
**Telework eligible position - Position has an official duty location of North Chicago, IL and is eligible for Situational Telework at the discretion of the Command. This position is NOT eligible for remote work (remote duty location). If telework is approved, selectees will be required to report to their official duty location as outlined in their telework agreement.**

Requirements for GS-09 Level:
Experience required: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must clearly describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled such as: Assisting higher graded Inspector General (IG) staff with inspections to aid in making recommendations for improvement of testing standards; Providing team members with operational and automation information data to ensure all areas are adhering to Internal Review directives; Drafting IG reports in proper format; Training subordinate staff to ensure that recruiting service mission is not interrupted; Conducting briefings to staff to convey IG findings/recommendations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education Substitution for Specialized Experience:
Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a related field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position (i.e., Law, Auditing, Public Administration. Business Management, or Business Administration or a related field). (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification).

Combination of Education and Experience:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts)

Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled such as: Conducting Inspector General (IG) inspections that encompass all facets of operational processing and DoD Military Enlistment Testing Program to make recommendations for improvement of accession processing and testing standards; Inspecting and evaluating computer systems usage and security to ensure that only command authorized software is installed; Providing team members with operational and technical processing interpretation to ensure adherence to governing regulations; Researching, analyzing, interpreting and evaluating data to make appropriate recommendations on Inspector General issues; Preparing reports, in accordance with Inspector General standards, that compile information retrieved during IG investigations/inspections. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Time in Grade Requirement:
GS-9: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
GS-11: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
