You will serve as a FIREFIGHTER (HAZMAT OPS) & (BLS/HAZMAT TECH) in the Navy Fire and Emergency Services of NAS OCEANA.

Duties

You will perform structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities that may include research and/or large industrial complexes. You will performs duties at airfields handling aircraft (e.g., fighters, bombers, cargo, passenger) carrying large volumes of fuel, conventional and sometimes nuclear weapons or highly flammable or explosive cargo. You will operate in small passages that restrict movement while wearing protective clothing and breathing equipment. You will drive and operate firefighting vehicles, such as, but not limited to pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, and Airport Rescue Fire Fighting {ARFF} vehicles.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

Qualifications

GS-7: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department/brigade; 2) Performing rescue operations; 3) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards; 4) Controlling hazardous materials incidents; 5) Driving and operating firefighting vehicles; and 6) Performing non-invasive emergency medical procedures. NOTE: THIS INFORMATION MUST BE SUPPORTED IN YOUR RESUME TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE POSITION. ***This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for the GS-7: Firefighter I and II, HAZMAT Technician, Driver/Operator-Pumper, and Driver/Operator Aerial. The following certification is also required: Emergency Medical Technician - Basic and must have been awarded by the State or National Registry (if you do not have NREMT, you MUST obtain National Registry within 12 months from the date of hire). These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or Pro Board to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached copies of your certifications, you will be rated ineligible. GS-6: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
