This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration. The incumbent serves as a senior archivist and subject matter expert (SME) in the National Declassification Center (NDC), a program office within the Agency Services organization. This position reports directly to the Director of the NDC, and is located in College Park, Maryland.
Duties
As an Archivist, you will:
Consult with and provide assistance and guidance to onsite government agencies regarding all matters that affect declassification review, release, and disclosure, including facilitating and supervising their access to specific historical records when appropriate to the NDC process.
Provide expert NDC outreach services for national security sensitive records accessioned to NARA.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge regarding the large and complex variety of records series and media types within NARA in order to locate requested material and advise staff on re-filing material released after the review process is completed.
Review records for national security information (NSI) as defined in EO 13526 or previous Executive orders, Restricted Data/Formerly Restricted Data (RD/FRD) as defined by the Atomic Energy Act, and the FOIA.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
To be qualified for this position at the GS-14 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience for this position must include:
Leading projects or teams to obtain information and provide expert recommendations to senior leaders or other interested parties.
AND
Researching and interpreting instructions, guidelines, and procedures to determine the appropriate actions.
AND
Communicating to internal and external audiences.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-14, you must have been at the GS-13level for 52 weeks.
Education
The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Individual Occupational Requirements:
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government.

- Combination of education and experience - at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
