About the Position: This position is located at the Maneuver Center of Excellence (MCOE), Fort Moore, Ga. The MCOE is located 100 miles south of Atlanta, Georgia, and is adjacent to Columbus, Georgia and Phenix City, Alabama.

Duties

Serve as the sole official spokesperson and primary contact for local and national media that require immediate responsiveness. Work with commanders, staff principals, focus groups and other forums to ensure that audiences are receiving the information they need. Respond to media queries, to include issues of a sensitive nature or that may be subject to misunderstanding if not properly explained, or that may draw adverse public attention. Develop and implement communication plans to inform affected publics of ongoing initiatives. Plan, implement and oversee effective internal information programs through the garrison newspaper, the garrison website and other internal communication media and forums. Develop contingency communication plans to provide continuous, timely and accurate internal information during emergencies. Serve as the principal staff advisor to the Garrison Commander and senior staff principals on all matters involving public issues and the creation of communication policy. Program, initiate and direct a positive internal and external information program to meet the various information needs in consonance with the overall mission and policies of the garrison, the Army and the Department of Defense.

Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires pre-employment financial disclosure and annually thereafter in accordance with DoD Directive 5500-7-R.
  • In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Emergency-Essential".
  • This position requires the incumbent to work on weekends and holidays as needed.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be on call.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • The position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather or other emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work to support mission operations.
