The department provides clinical and anatomic services for inpatient, outpatient, and multiple Community-Based Outreach Clinics. The primary purpose of this position is to provide office automation administrative support to a multi-disciplinary clinical and anatomic pathology team; which provides laboratory diagnostic and anatomic pathology services for veterans and VHA healthcare providers.

Duties

Major Duties include, but are not limited to: Ability to perform pathology-related medical transcription. Perform timekeeping and pathology administrative procedures. Understand the office filling system, in order to maintain files, compile data from files, and locate reference sources for The Service Chief, pathologists, and staff. Provides general organizational support requiring a broad knowledge of Microsoft Word, Anatomic Lab Package, Time & Attendance, IFCAP package, and Internet access. Ability to scan documents into the medical record. Responsible for ensuring that each stage of the transcribed report is completed appropriately on the computer. Maintain files and reports. Maintain office compliance regarding regulations, policies, and guidelines as established. Receive incoming calls from patients, clients, staff, and others in need of information. Take meeting minutes. Utilize a range of software applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) to prepare correspondence. Perform other assigned duties. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/25/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade at any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position, you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess the one-year time-in-grade year required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates a one-year time-in-grade Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. The ideal candidate will possess skills in usage of voice recognition software to edit and finalize complex material involving specialized terminology dictated by several individuals, and skills in editing material involving non-specialized terminology such as live conferences, teleconferences, or similar proceedings when an accurate recording is required. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include but are not limited to: Knowledge of filing, typing, entering data, maintaining records, taking shorthand, and using and completing forms; Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work; Identifies a need; gathers, organizes, and maintains information; determines its importance and accuracy, and communicates it by a variety of methods. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. OR, Education: As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position. For the GS 6 grade level, 6 months of graduate level education would substitute for specialized experience (only if directly related to the work of the position). You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: ClericalComputer SkillsManages and Organizes Information Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. There is some walking, bending, and moving of supplies required. Answering of multiple-line telephones is required. Constant work with computers, calculators, and reading/interpretation of instructions are essential. Preferred Experience: Experience in Anatomic Pathology Transcription and office administrative duties is preferred.

Education
