About the Position: Serves as a Traffic Management Specialist, U.S. Army Sustainment, Logistics Readiness Center, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.
Duties
Determine appropriate classification, legal applicability, most economical rates, and routes for shipment of freight by all modes of transportation.
Input shipment criteria into an automated system to determine appropriate carrier, and mode of transportation.
Ship Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) routed through the Directorate of Logistics, Transportation Division.
Transport a wide range of commodities to destinations within and outside the continental United States.
Discuss shipments with commercial carriers, Army/Department of Defense personnel, and other agencies for movement of numerous types of government commodities.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Entering shipment criteria into an automated system to determine appropriate mode of transportation; 2) Inspecting shipment for compliance with hazardous transportation regulations; AND 3) Preparing reports pertaining to traffic management functions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Major study in accounting, business administration, business or commercial law, commerce, economics, engineering, finance, industrial management, statistics, traffic management, transportation, motor mechanics, or other fields related to the position.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
OR
Certificate: Possession of a certificate as Certified Member, American Society of Transportation and Logistics meets the requirements for GS-5. Persons with such certificates may also qualify for higher grade levels based on their education and/or experience.
