The Raymond G. Murphy Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center is currently recruiting for one Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist to work for the Diagnostic Imaging and Radiology Service in Albuquerque, NM. The Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist functions as a supervisor for a group of DRTs at the GS-9 level and below which may include support staff.

Duties

The Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist evaluates new products and equipment, making recommendations to supervisor concerning upgrades/new purchases that would improve operations. Duties include, but are not limited to the following: Take appropriate disciplinary actions with guidance thru VA directives and AFGE involvement as deemed necessary and propose to higher authority a specific disciplinary action based on the problem and facts. Coordinate work performed by the CT technologists and serve as a subject matter expert for all the CT staff. Work with associated customers, i.e., clinicians, patients, various staff, to ensure that all CT section questions are resolved or are forwarded to the chain of command as necessary. Recommend and submit information to the second level supervisor for changes that may increase or reduce costs, affect employees' status, limit services rendered, or affect work outside the CT section. Maintain workload demands including justifying changes in staffing levels, priorities, and deadlines to ensure timely care is affected. Submit special budget requirements for the CT section. Coordinate and advise on quality assurance activities for CT as necessary to include Salisbury, Charlotte, Kernersville positions. Ensure that adequate quantities of supplies are available to meet workload/ patient care demands. Ensure procedure rooms are always stocked with necessary supplies with special attention to emergent equipment/supplies. Make changes in workflow or assignment of functions to improve workflow, promote job satisfaction, increase productivity, ensure emergent work is done promptly, and all services are rendered efficiently. Train new technologists in CT procedures to include head, neck, thorax, abdomen, pelvis, extremity, and vascular exams, and other specialty procedures. Develop formal orientation, training, and evaluation programs. Recommends, coordinates, and evaluates new or modified procedures/protocols. Assign employees to positions and/or work assignments based on consideration of several factors including the difficulty and type of work, availability, capability, and experience. Issue oral and written instructions for non-routine or more complex assignments. Resolve scheduling and back-up coverage problems. Assist in providing coverage when unexpected staff shortages occur during regular and irregular tours-of-duty. Responsible for all safety regulations/practices in CT section. Ensure proper documentation of accidents occurring to employees, patients, or visitors. Maintain documentation/information for The Joint Commission, Office of Inspector General, SOARS, etc. to ensure compliance throughout the section. Participate in setting performance standards, goals, and objectives of assigned or supervised employees. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Citizenship: Citizen of the United States. Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or Mammography (M) duties performed independently. CERTIFICATION DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE). TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements above, candidates must meet the following grade requirements. GS-10 Diagnostics Radiologic Technologist (Supervisory) Experience: At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: 1. Ability to analyze organizational, technical, and administrative problems and to develop and implement solutions that result in efficient section operation. 2. Ability to evaluate quality management procedures and processes. 3. Ability to analyze and use data effectively to manage workload, quality, performance, and productivity. 4. Skill in developing new policies and guidelines as needed. 5. Skill in problem solving and conflict resolution. References: VA Handbook 5005/119, Part II, Appendix G25 - Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist Qualification Standards. Physical Requirements: Bending, pushing, pulling, reaching and occasional kneeling, crawling and squatting; lifting, carrying, bending, and manipulation of equipment; patient assistance and positioning; walking and prolonged standing; the ability to read written orders, computer screens, patient records, and equipment controls; and the ability to communicate with patients, physicians, and coworkers. Near visual acuity to assess patient's physical condition when performing exams and evaluating images for diagnostic quality. Must be able to speak and hear to communicate with patients; ability to make critical decisions, interact with patients of different ages and health conditions, maintain patient confidentiality, work under stressful conditions.
