As a Legislative Advisor, you will serve as a liaison between GAO and congressional committees, members, and their staffs.
Duties
Reviews complex pieces of legislation and identifying the scope, impact, and importance of the legislation to agency programs that are either being evaluated or of particular interest to the GAO.
Fosters and maintains productive working relationships with Congressional Committee and Member staff and represents the GAO to Congressional Committee and Member staff and Members by communicating the status, issues, sensitivity, information gathered, and
importance of engagements undertaken by GAO personnel.
Serves as a technical expert in preparing, advising, and guiding GAO employees that are tasked with serving as witnesses to the Congress; or employees sought to brief on the findings, accuracy, completeness, and methodology of analysis used in a GAO product.
Provides technical insight and expertise regarding GAO engagements (i.e. status, deliverables, reporting) to Congressional committee staff and members; and interfaces with engagement personnel to track, manage, and ensure that GAO's reports adequately and
sufficiently address the concerns of the Congress.
Communicates highly technical and sensitive policies, protocols, and procedures used by the Congress and GAO to exchange or request information to agency personnel.
Provides oversight and guidance of engagements that are of particular interest to the Congress. This requires communicating with mission staff at all levels to help ensure that specific data, research, calculations, or analysis is performed and communicated by analysts
to provide Congress with the highest quality objective information and insight on the performance of government funded programs.
Oversees the receipt, assignment, and management of congressional requests and mandates directed by the congress to GAO; and ensures that any issues impeding the quality, deliverability, and response to congressional requests is resolved.
Reviews the accuracy and completeness of "report packages" prior to submission to the Congress thereby ensuring that specific data or information elements related to the Congress are captured.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
You must have at least one year of experience equivalent to the PE-2B or GS-14 level:
interacting with congressional committees, members, and staff to provide advice on a diverse range of matters;
applying your knowledge of legislative dynamics to handle sensitive policy issues that could impact your organization's relationship with Congress; and
working with congressional rules, protocols, and procedures to navigate Hill relationships.
