This position, located within the VA Salt Lake City Healthcare System (VASLCHCS), will support the local planning of the 2024 National Veterans Golden Age Games (NVGAG). The Program Specialist will assist with the development, planning and implementation of all activities for the VA Medical Center necessary to successfully execute the 2024 NVGAG Program.
Duties

NOTE: This is a TERM appointment (not to exceed to 13 months). Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration (more than 1 year but not more than 4). Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Term appointments may be extended without further competition (up to the 4-year maximum). The appointment to a Term position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provides program support to include involvement and support in the planning process of 6 sub-committee Vice-Chairs - Logistics, Administration, Medical, Public Affairs, Hospitality, and Sports Events
Participates in a complex and extensive planning process in order for the local Medical Center to be fully prepared to host a national event - planning components include transportation accommodations, meals, equipment, inventory management, event activities, logistics, etc.
Tracks multiple budgets and provides updates to key leaders and stakeholders
Maintains daily contacts face-to-face, email, correspondence, etc.
Manages schedules, takes and distributes meeting minutes, handles office communications, etc.
Utilizes software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint and other related programs
Performs all other duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm

Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Qualifications
This position includes a Selective Placement Factor (skill, knowledge, ability or other worker characteristic basic to - and essential for - satisfactory performance of the job). In addition to the Selective Placement Factor, to qualify for this position at the GS-9 grade level, you must also meet one of the following:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-7) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience includes: performing analytical, evaluative, and advisory work within an organizational/program environment; managing and coordinating administrative services essential to the effective operation of a program; providing high level administrative support; preparing a variety of reports, forms, and correspondence; utilizing Microsoft Outlook, SharePoint, Word, and Excel to accomplish administrative duties; and, developing, planning and implementing activities for large-scale events. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. ~OR~
EDUCATION: Successful completion of a master's degree or two (2) full years of graduate level education leading to such a degree in a related field of study that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position. COMBINATION: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate-level education (beyond the first year) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required such as warehouse inventory and carrying/moving of basic equipment and other materials.
