This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health, Office of the Surgeon General (OSG), located in Washington, District of Columbia.
Duties
Provide guidance to authors and editors regarding effective written presentation of scientific findings and understanding of the underlying scientific processes and procedures involved in publishing.
Knowledge of the responsibilities and relationships of public health programs at the local, state, and international level.
Negotiate with internal and external experts and institutions to form partnerships and encourage investment in public health information dissemination.
Plans, coordinates, edits, and produces PHR on a continuous basis, electronically and bimonthly in print schedule, with selected expedited articles as needed.

Qualifications
Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic AND Minimum Qualification requirements as noted below.
Basic Requirement:
You must meet the item listed below: Possess a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the public health, medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. (MUST SUBMIT TRANSCRIPT) Note: This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Minimum Qualifications:
GS-15: You must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-14 level in the Federal service that includes (3) of the following (4) duties:
Using a wide range of qualitative and quantitative methods for assessing and evaluating submitted scientific manuscripts;
Utilizing prior scientific authorship or editorial experience with peer-reviewed publications or journals, including knowledge of peer review, editing practices, and publication process;
Effectively coordinate with and cultivate relationships with senior scientific journal leadership and staff, editors, peer reviewers, authors and, or other contributors to a public health journal or publication;
Providing subject matter expertise in public health and a wide range of related disciplines including population health, epidemiology, biostatistics, translational science, public health ethics, data science, laboratory science, social sciences, behavioral science, health economics, nutrition, biochemistry, informatics, or related fields
