Joining the Secret Service, Office of Human Resources, will allow you to participate in the formulation and administration of a comprehensive Employee Assistance Program (EAP). This Employee Assistance Program Specialist starts at a salary of $117,962 (GS 13, step 1) with potential to $153,354 (GS 13, step 10). Duties

The selectee will serve as an Employee Assistance Program Specialist in the Office of Human Resources, Employee Assistance Program. Typical work assignments include:

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:  Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.  ORCombination of education and experience -- that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.  ORFour years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. AND Specialized Experience:  You qualify for the GS-13 level (starting salary $117,962) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level performing duties such as: Providing clinical mental health counseling to assist clients with managing their interpersonal, psychological, or physical symptoms to improve their sense of well-being, alleviate feelings of distress and resolve crises; Providing clinical consultation, referral and follow-up services to clients, their families, and supervisors on a range of sensitive and confidential matters to include, but not limited to marital issues, workplace stressors, critical incidents, suicidal risk, alcohol use disorders, depression, anxiety, and domestic violence;  Communicating technical and/or clinically sensitive information clearly to clients, their families, and supervisors;  Conducting employee assistance related assessments in person, telephonically and virtually on matters to include, but not limited to depression, alcohol use disorders, suicide, anxiety, and Post Traumatic Stress;  Developing and conducting trainings, workshops/webinars and briefings to educate management, supervisors and employees on a range of mental health related disorders and professional concerns that build resilience and enhance job performance and personal well-being; Possessing knowledge and experience working with law enforcement personnel, or first responders, and the impact of the inherent job stressors on the personal, familial, and professional well-being of those individuals. AND Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the minimum qualifications described above, you must meet the following requirement to be considered qualified for the position:  Applicants are required to hold a current/non-expired U.S. state mental health license in a mental health-related field, such as; Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.Time-in-Grade Requirements: Under competitive merit promotion procedures, any individual who is currently holding, or who has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under a non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet "time-in-grade" requirements (have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade of the grade for which you are applying). Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to current competitive service employees applying for a Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. NOTE: All current or former Federal employees must provide a copy of their SF-50, "Notice of Personnel Action" that indicates proof of status and time-in-grade eligibility. The SF-50 must include your position, title, series, grade, step, tenure (1 or 2), and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). You may need to submit more than one SF-50 to comply. Qualifications Must Be Met: The qualification requirements listed above must be met by the closing date of this announcement.The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
