Duties
This position is located in the Special Operations Bureau
(SOD). Crisis Negotiators are
responsible for responding to and resolving barricade situations, hostage
situations, attempted suicides and other crisis situations. Intensive training
is provided to obtain the critical skills and abilities to conduct these
responsibilities. This position is a collateral duty assignment.The incumbent is responsible for assisting in coordinating
negotiations and crisis interventions during critical incidents and identifying
resources required for the safe resolution of the incident.Responds to the scene, assesses the totality of the
situation, secures the area, gages the threat to hostages or bystanders, and
requests additional units as appropriate.Defuses potentially life threatening situations through the
use or proven verbal crisis management techniques.Responsible for keeping notes, and ensuring that the primary
negotiator sees and hears everything in the proper prospective.Responsible for assisting in coordinating negotiations and
crisis interventions during critical incidents.Performs overall duties related to the mission of the USCP
and crisis negotiations.Participates on a continuous in-service training and all
other activities designated by the Crisis Negotiation Commander.Multiple vacancies exist. The number of Crisis Negotiator
positions will be determined by the needs of the Department. The selection list
will be active for a period of one (1) year from the date of approval of the
selection memorandum unless an applicant withdraws in writing his/her
application to the Office of Human Resources (OHR).This position is a collateral duty.
Qualifications
1. Must be a USCP Officer below the rank of Lieutenant; have
successfully completed your probationary period by the closing date of this
announcement; and attained the rank of Sergeant by the closing date of this
announcement.2. Must not be in restricted leave status as of the closing
date of this announcement.3. Must be in full and unrestricted duty status as of the
selection date unless otherwise authorized by law (e.g., performance of duty
injury, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), or Uniformed Services Employment
and ReemploymentRights Act (USERRA)).4. Must be currently assigned to USB, OSB-SOD, OSB-K-9 and
PSB-ID. All eligibility requirements must be met by the closing date
of the vacancy announcement.
