The incumbent will be assigned to work in the Emergency Department (ED). The incumbent will be supervised by the ED Nurse Manager. The Healthcare Technician (HCT) is a highly specialized position, providing both clinical and administrative support while performing duties traditionally done by multiple staff in other services and sections.
Duties
Performs or assists RN with personal care, such as body or oral hygiene
Dressing/undressing- ensuring patient privacy at all times
Toileting/elimination- ensuring patient privacy at all times
Provides direct observation for both suicidal and homicidal patients
Performs or assists RN with search and inventory of patient belongings
Inserts peripheral IVs and performs venipuncture
Performs 12-lead EKG's and gives to provider within 10 minutes of interpretation
Answers call lights and communicates Patient's needs to assigned RN or Charge Nurse
Transporting of low-risk telemetry patients to testing and assigned inpatient units
Cleaning and stocking of supplies
Work Schedule: Rotating tours of duty to meet the 24/7 needs of the emergency room department. *If selecting part time work schedule when applying it will be considered 20 hours per week. Full time will remain 40 hours per week.

Physical Requirements: Requires considerable walking, bending, standing, lifting, and handling of equipment and supplies. Requires dexterity in performing technical procedures. Proper body mechanics should be utilized at all times.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
GS-05 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: performing venipunctures, label and send specimens to lab, communicate with assigned RN, providing a variety of personal nursing care tasks, knowledge of medical supply items and equipment, transporting and transferring patients, and assisting other medical staff with procedures.

Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-05 level. Education: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.(Copy of School Transcripts required.)
