This position is for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of the Logistics Service in a Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS} and supported catchment area.
Duties
Major Duties Include:
Informs personnel on new or changed items and supplies, current medical supply resources and shelf life.
Reviews completed work to see that instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines have been met.
Defines and recognizes problems, collects applicable data and makes recommendations for a solution.
Works with clinical and administrative personnel regarding administrative and medical supplies
Handles conflict and problems in dealing with customers.
Enters information using the generic inventory package and validates the data
Cleans assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles as published in infection control guidelines, local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Joint Commission standards as scheduled
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/26/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Gives on the job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices.
Maintains current knowledge and answers questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives, or other guidelines as necessary and obtains needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems that come up
Maintains stock at primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services.
Ensures critical supplies are appropriately monitored and controlled, resolving deviations when possible, and escalating significant deviations to the Inventory Management Specialists.
Receives supplies and material into the VA Health Care System and supported catchment area
Unpacks/uncrates supplies from shipping cartons; properly stores supplies and material in main/primary inventory area

Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire work day, and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). Work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100 pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items weighing over 40 pounds.
Work Environment: Work is performed throughout the medical center and supported catchment areas, which includes wards, storage buildings, and warehouses that range from a clean environment to hot, cold, drafty and poorly lighted. The possibility of trips, falls, scrapes, cuts, bruises or injury are present during the day-to-day work of the position. Work requires stocking supplies in the primary inventory areas well as numerous secondary inventory points throughout the hospital work area, including wards, clinics, operating rooms, warehouses, and nursing areas. Work requires maintaining a clean environment while performing tasks that can produce dust or other infectious pollutants while transitioning between environments. Supported units may be offsite requiring round trip travel time in excess of 90 minutes. Tours of duty may require afternoon, evening and/or overnight shifts.
