A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay. This position is located in Acadia National Park, in the Facility Management Division.

Duties

Career-Seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectee are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment. The typical season for Acadia National Park is April to December but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions. Employee works with and assists in the leading, training, and safety of laborers, volunteers, and Acadia Youth Conservation Corps under the guidance of a Trail Work Leader and Trail Supervisor. Employee is engaged in all aspects of trail maintenance, construction, and repair. This includes drainage and tread maintenance, masonry dry stone construction, and carpentry work using heavy log and rough-sawn lumber, for repair of trail structures, and rehabilitation of all trails within Acadia National Park. Uses small equipment, loaders, atv, etc., and drives crew cabs, trucks, and passenger vans up to but not exceeding 10,000 GVW to transport crew and or materials to the job site. Plans, sets up, and operates typical overhead rigging systems used in trail work to transport material. Area Information: Acadia National Park is a favorite vacation destination for good reason. The views are spectacular. The landscape is pristine. And, the wildlife is plentiful and protected. As a result, Acadia National Park is one of the most visited national parks in the United States. Acadia National Park protects more than 47,000 acres of lakes, ponds, mountains, and ocean shoreline along the coast of Maine. The 27-mile Park Loop Road system offers outstanding views of the park's ocean shoreline, coastal forests, and mountain silhouettes. At Acadia you can explore the park's scenic 45-mile carriage road system or hike through forests and up mountains on 155 miles of historic hiking trails. Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
