You will serve as a WORK AND FAMILY LIFE CONSULTANT in the Military and Family Support Center of NAVAL STATION.

Duties

You will administer work and family services (e.g., career assistance, transition, relocation) to verify services and information needed are available to support a community (e.g., military, civilian). You will plan transition assistance program workshops for job search skills and resume preparation to meet the needs of clients. You will Implement family support programs and workshops to meet the needs of an organization. You will develop educational forums to enhance the military or civilian community in improving work and family life skills. You will interview clients to identify needs and concerns regarding work and family life issues (e.g., relocation, career resource development, personal financial issues).

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Serves as primary Military and Family Support Center (MFSC) Point of Contact (POC) for assigned commands/units under the Military and Family Support Center (MFSC); 2) Serves as a non-clinical consultant on a wide variety of work and family life issues and concerns relevant to the military community; 3) Establishes, develops, implements, monitors and coordinates work and family life services and activities, to include information & referral services; 4) Providing assistance in developing goals and plans and determining appropriate referral services and options; 5) Trains support staff, participates in unit activities (e.g., staff meetings and family support group activities), as appropriate, markets Military and Family Support Center (MFSC) programs, maintains statistics and completes required reports; and 6) Assist commands, military personnel and family members with readiness assistance to include transition and employment readiness, financial planning, relocation assistance, pre/post and mid-deployment planning, return and reunion support programs, repatriation assistance, family readiness, family member deployment resource information such as information on children and deployment issues, eligibility for medical services, emergency response, communications, stress management and support services. Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess

A degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field
OR
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

In addition to the required education stated above, specialized experience may be substituted with
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
Or
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
