Duties

The duty stations for the parks are: Lassen Volcanic NP: Mineral, CA North Cascades National Park: Marblemount, WA Simple and routine maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings and related utilities requiring the use of a variety of trade practices associated with more than one of the following occupations: carpentry, masonry, painting, roofing and motor vehicle operation. Examples of this work are repairing and modifying wood components of historic and prehistoric structures. Cleaning and repairing buildings, walls, trim and floor surfaces for painting. Assisting in maintenance, repair and stabilization of prehistoric and historic ruins and sites. Removing deteriorated roofing materials in preparation for reroofing and assisting with restoring and stabilizing roofs. Operate a light truck to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites. Physical Demands: The physical effort required is considered heavy to moderate and requires lifting and handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds unassisted, and occasionally lifting or moving heavier items with the assistance of a lifting device or other workers. The incumbent is required to work while standing, stooping, bending, crouching and climbing in tiring, awkward, and uncomfortable positions. When working from a ladder or scaffolds, work involves reaching overhead, stretching or other awkward positions. Working Conditions: General work is done at prehistoric and historic structures and ruins throughout the park. Often these are in backcountry locations with difficult access that may require rappelling and the use of scaffold and ladder systems. The structures and ruins may be extremely deteriorated and structurally unsound, and therefore considered hazardous. Exposed to moderate or high noise levels from operating machinery, saw dust in the air, fumes, and hazards associated with power equipment or preservatives. Occasionally the work may be performed outside under adverse weather conditions. Other environmental factors such as stinging and biting insects, snakes, and poisonous plants can be encountered.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Have the ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker (Historic Preservation) WG 5 without more than normal supervision. (SCREEN OUT) Work history demonstrates experience performing simple and routine maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings and related utilities requiring the use of a variety of trade practices associated with more than one of the following occupations: carpentry, masonry, painting, roofing and motor vehicle operation. Examples of this work are repairing and modifying wood components of historic structures. Cleaning and repairing buildings, walls, trim and floor surfaces for painting. Assisting in maintenance, repair and stabilization of historic ruins and sites. Removing deteriorated roofing materials in preparation for reroofing and assisting with restoring and stabilizing roofs. Education
