You will serve as a Park Ranger in the Department of the Navy of MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON. ***This Job Opportunity Announcement is using an additional online assessment tool to evaluate applicants. Duties

You will serve as the technical expert on enforcing conservation law enforcement, compliance, and policy related matters. You will provide biological knowledge, expertise, wildlife and fish management and guidance necessary to complete tasks to manage select wildlife species while working in close coordination with base and technical resource professionals. You will provide techniques with emphasis on game management for long-term planning and maintenance of game populations habitats to enhance native species and biotic diversity. You will regularly interact with enforcement personnel from different agencies, such as US Forest Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, and local law enforcement.

Requirements

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet the mission requirements. Overtime or nigh differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • I am willing and able to successfully complete the FLETC LMPT course within the first year from the date of hire in order to meet the PD requirement to continue working within this position as a Park Ranger.
  • You must obtain and maintain the following licenses and certifications within prescribed timelines: Federal; commission of law enforcement authority, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid, Annual/Semi-Annual firearms qualifications.
  • You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certification.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current federal commission of law enforcement authority license.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Enforcing base, state and/or federal regulations to protect and conserve natural, historical, and cultural resources; 2) Providing technical guidance on conservation law enforcement, compliance, and policy related matters; 3) Maintaining game populations and habitats to enhance native species and biotic diversity; and 4) Coordinating with enforcement personnel from various agencies (e.g., US Forest Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, local law enforcement) to achieve mission goals.. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
  • 2 full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education; or
  • master's or equivalent graduate degree related to the occupation; or
  • combination of education and experience as listed above that equals 100%.
