You will serve as a PARK RANGER (Conservation Law Enforcement Officer) in the Resource Management Branch within the Conservation Division of MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON.

Duties

You will detect, investigate, apprehend, detain, arrest, and/or issue citations. You will investigate criminal activity related to threatened and endangered species. You will enforce Federal and California Fish and Game regulation. You will prepare investigations by documenting findings and facts, obtaining witness statements, evidence, correspondence, photographs and maps.

Requirements

  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • You will be required to POSSESS and maintain a current valid United States drivers license and maintain base driving privileges.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • An annual Physical Agility Test (PAT) is required for the position.
  • Must be able to obtain, possess, keep and maintain law enforcement credentials and badges by not violating regulations and policies governing this law enforcement position.
  • Annual credit, DMV and background checks (checking law enforcement records) may be performed as stated within MCO 5530.14A due to the position being classified as a law enforcement position.
  • You will be required to obtain the following Licenses and Certifications:
  • - A federal commission of law enforcement authority (obtain within one year from date of hire).
  • - Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid (obtain with six months of hire).
  • - Successfully complete annual/semiannual firearms qualifications (after receiving federal law enforcement commission).
  • Must complete the Land Management Police Training Academy during the first year of employment.
  • Must attend a 40 hr in-service training/refresher annually.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Enforcing base, state and/or federal regulations to protect and conserve natural, historical, and cultural resources; 2) Providing technical guidance on conservation law enforcement, compliance, and policy related matters; 3)) Maintaining game populations and habitats to enhance native species and biotic diversity; and 4) Coordinating with enforcement personnel from various agencies (e.g., US Forest Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, local law enforcement) to achieve mission goals. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
  • 2 full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education;
or
  • master's or equivalent graduate degree related to the occupation;
or
  • combination of education and experience as listed above that equals 100%.'
