Duties
Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations will allow you to use your expertise in administration to provide office services to CBP management.
This position starts at a salary of $57,007.00 (GS-07, Step 1) to $74,110.00 (GS-07, Step 10) with promotion potential to
$74,110.00 (GS-7 Step 10).

In this Secretary (Office Automation) position you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals providing administrative support. Typical work assignments include:
Screening calls and visitors and referring them to the appropriate staff member or office.
Reading incoming correspondence, logging routes to appropriate person or office and assembling background information and routing it and other incoming items to supervisor.
Reviewing outgoing correspondences for the supervisor's signature for proper format, conformance with procedural instructions, correctness of grammar, typographical accuracy, and appropriate coordination.
Explaining nontechnical policies and procedures used in the office to managers and staff and conducting periodic training to update throughout the office on administrative procedures.
Routinely obtaining advance knowledge of management's position(s) with regard to collective bargaining, the investigation into, and disposition of, grievances and unfair labor practices, proposed and final discipline/adverse actions, Equal Employment Opportunity complaints, appeals to the Merit Systems Protection Board, and other labor and employee relations matters.
Qualifications
Experience: You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Keeping the supervisor's calendar, scheduling appointments and meetings on own initiative.
Responding to requests for information concerning office functions.
Ensuring that all requests for action or information are acted upon.
Arranging for conferences, including such matters as location, schedule, agenda, and attendance list.
Reading incoming correspondence and obtaining clarifying information when necessary; maintaining controls of office action items and following up to ensure timely reply or action and signing routine correspondence.

Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years. Working for the U.S. Government as a federal civilian or as a member of the military
A dependent who was authorized to accompany a federal civilian or member of the military who was working for the U.S. government

Working as a contractor, intern, consultant or volunteer supporting the U.S. government
Probationary Period: All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment.
