This position is located within the Agricultural Research Service, Pacific West Area, Pullman, Washington. In this position you will support the supervisor and the staff by relieving them of various administrative and clerical duties and allowing them to focus on the organization's primary mission. This is a term, time-limited appointment with an initial duration no less than 13 months and can be extended up to a total of 4 years.

Duties

Prepares and types in final form office administration forms and related documents. Receives telephone calls, greets visitors, and directs to staff members only those contacts needing attention or action. Independently composes correspondence in accordance with supervisor's policies or as requested. Prepares and transmits Time and Attendance records and reports for office staff.

Requirements

  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. GS-5 Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-05 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-04 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience using office automation software packages and equipment to type, edit, format letters, memoranda, reports, manuscripts, research documents, or forms; and establishing and maintaining office filing systems. OR Education: Successful completion of four years above high school. OR A combination of specialized experience and education as described above GS-6 Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-06 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience performing administrative and clerical duties including using office automation software to compose edits, distribute correspondence, and other documents; maintaining the supervisor's calendar; and reviewing office budget or accounting reports for accuracy. Applicants must be able to type 40 words per minute. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
