Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for conducting investigations of a highly complex and difficult nature relating to civil actions within the jurisdiction of the United States Attorney's Office. Cases are handled independently, as lead agent, or as a team member, and frequently concern highly sensitive matters involve prominent individuals or corporations and are characterized by obscure leads, few visible records, uncooperative witnesses, and conflicting evidence. Major duties of this position include: Independently plan and conduct investigations of a highly complex and difficult nature, whether solely within the USAO or in conjunction with other federal and/or state agencies Performs a variety of investigations related services to develop an Investigative Plan. Example activities may include but are not limited to, one or more of the following: initiating contacts with federal, state, and local officials, and other organizations and individuals related to subject of investigation for the purpose of gathering facts, obtaining statements, learning sequences of events, obtaining explanations and otherwise advancing investigative objectives; examining books, applications, ledgers, payrolls, reports, statements, computer databases, spreadsheets, and other records pertaining to the transactions, events, or allegations under investigation; and establishing and/or verifying relationships among all facts and evidence obtained or presented to confirm authenticity of documents, corroborate witness statements, and otherwise build proof necessary for successful litigation. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a United States Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

GS-12: To be eligible at the GS-12 level you must meet the following condition as defined below: Specialized Experience. Specialized experience One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in Federal service performing the following types of duties: Developing or participating in the development of investigative plans; conducting investigations; coordinating and/or conducting surveillance of suspects with appropriate law enforcement/investigative agencies; interviewing suspects and witnesses; identifying, analyzing, processing physical evidence; and preparing reports on criminal or civil investigations which include significant findings, conclusions, and recommendations for additional investigative actions. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
