NASA's Office of Communications (OCOMM) Enterprise seeks experienced Public Affairs Specialists in various disciplines across the Agency. This announcement may fill positions at all NASA Centers within one of the following functional areas: news, media, internal communications, engagement, protocol, guest operations, exhibits, events, digital, or technology.
Duties
Duties described below are at the highest grade advertised. Duties assigned at lower grade levels will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
Works across the organization, to lead in planning small to large-scale events (whether in-person, virtual, or hybrid).
Manages venue selections, event logistics, speaker preparation and recruitment, organizational coordination, run-of-shows, event checklists, staffing plans, logistics plans, talking points, and briefers as appropriate.
Develops and/or stays current on NASA strategic communication messaging and goals to engage more effectively with the public and enhance public understanding.
Plans, initiates, implements, and supports comprehensive communication plans that enhance understanding of agency programs among the public and specialized groups or organizations.
Develops, edits, and disseminates agency products on various communication platforms and channels based on Associated Press (AP) Style and NASA Style to the public or specialized target groups domestic and foreign.
Maintains internal communications calendars, and drafts, helps coordinate, and distributes communication activities and products internal reports.
Establishes and maintains relations with media and serves as an agency spokesperson.

- Position subject to pre-employment background investigation or higher level clearance. Investigation/Clearance may differ and be required based on the duties/location-NASA Center requirements.

- This position may require a one-year probationary period.
- Duty location will be determined upon selection and will be at one of the locations listed on the announcement. Selectee(s) will be required to work onsite at the duty location selected.

Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
To qualify for GS-12, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level:
Planning and coordinating communications campaigns to convey specific topics for senior leaders and/or targeted audiences;
Participating in project management for communications by providing edits and other suggestions;
Integrating strategic communications plans and component products (ex. graphics, multimedia, etc.).
To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level:
Coordinating specific communication priorities and/or missions and coordinating related communication activities and serving as an agency spokesperson;
Drafting and reviewing communication products intended for the news media, social media and/or the web;
Writing and editing documents to meet journalistic standards and technical accuracy.
