This position is located within the Pine Ridge Service Unit to include work in the Pine Ridge Hospital, LaCreek Clinic, Kyle and Wanblee Health Centers. May be present to any of the locations for auditing and oversight. The purpose of this position is to maintain an effective service unit-wide infection control/employee health program. Incumbent is responsible for meeting the Joint commission's Standards of Nursing Practice and Infection Control.
Duties
Serve as a consultant and subject matter expert for the chair of the Infection Control/Patient Safety/Employee Health committees at the facilities.
Conduct annual training and in-service to staff on Infection Control.
Conduct continuous staff education on Patient Safety reports to the Governing Body.
Implement the patient safety goals plan and policies.
Qualifications

Education
A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs(external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education(external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure
For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination(external link). In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Experience
The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Evaluate the processes and activities involving infection control, employee health and safety programs. Construct, implement, and facilitate clinical education needs of staff adhering to nursing principles, practices and processes. OR, possess a master's degree in professional nursing.
GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Develop policies and procedures for infection control, employee health, and patient safety and ensure compliance with accreditation requirements. Understand and present health and educational resources. Manage employee health records, collect data and prepare reports for Quality Improvement and Clinical Committees. OR, possess a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program.
Time In Grade (Merit Promotion Candidates Only)
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
