Serves as a patient registration Medical Support Assistant (OA) verifying eligibility services information by interacting with patients to obtain and process demographic information and insurance information for alternate resources, purchased referred care and private/commercial insurance. Reports to Supervisory Health System Specialist.
Duties
Interviews patients to obtain pertinent patient registration information
Assists patients in completing new or updated forms
Responsible for verifying eligibility for all patients seeking services
Obtains signatures for files on required form for alternate resources and purchased referred care prior to patients being seen in the clinic
Maintains, key-enters, updates and verifies all alternate resources data necessary for patient registration and for accurate billing
Answer questions related to processing claims according to payer guidelines.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Applicants must meet the following typing proficiency:
40 words per minute based on a five minute sample with three or fewer errors.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-04: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to perform the work of this position at the GS-4 level.
OR
Two years of education above the high school level
OR
A combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for the GS-04.
GS-5: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level that equipped me with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: screening and interviewing patients or customers to obtain or verify information; inputting and updating data in computerized data system; performing a variety of receptionist duties such as receiving patients, visitors, and telephone calls; explaining policies/procedures to patients or customers.
OR
4 years of education above high school.
Successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable for grade GS-5. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.
Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grade GS-5. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward
GS-6: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: interviewing patients, updating patient registration information, verifying third-party resources, utilizing patient registration systems, working with various health benefit programs and health insurance programs having different benefits, deductibles and eligibility requirements, and initiating and completing application for third party resources.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
