This position serves as a Medical Support Assistant (OA) within the Purchased Referred Care (PRC) department of the Wewoka Indian Health Center. The incumbent is responsible for coordination and issuance of purchase orders for all patient care services and assures compliance with regulations regarding PRC eligibility requirements. This position reports to the Supervisory Health System Specialist.
Duties
Receive patient referrals and make appointments
Coordinate referrals to providers
Enters data to automate the referral process and maintain records
Verifies alternate resource programs when referrals are received
Analyzes obligations and disbursements
Follows up on outstanding purchases and denial and/or deferred letters
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Applicants must meet the following typing proficiency: 40 words per minute based on a five minute sample with three or fewer errors.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-5: One year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-4 grade level determining eligibility requirements; obtaining and processing demographic requirements and insurance information for patient registration, alternate resources, purchased referred care services or related purposes; preparing, processing and issuing medical referrals for outside vendors; setting up patient appointments by phone, taking emergency call-ins; talking with patients regarding bills, follow up appointments; and basic knowledge of medical procedures, various medical specialties and medical terminology to select providers, arrange appointments, and discuss procedures recommended under the guidance of supervisor or medical staff.

Four years of education above high school.

Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grade GS-5. For GS-5 level positions only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement.
GS-6: One year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level preparing, processing and issuing medical referrals for outside vendors; communicating with patients regarding bills, status of claims, approved referrals, follow up appointments and appeal process when necessary within the scope of purchased referred care (PRC) procedures and policy; and coordinating the management of the health care delivery system by providing contract medical vendors with PRC authorizations to determine an estimated cost of the services render, whether inpatient or outpatient services.
GS-7: One year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level determining if an authorization has been issued or has been paid using own initiative and judgment within the scope of the purchased referred care (PRC) procedures and regulations; monitoring Third Party liability and Federal Medical Care Recovery Act (FMCRA) coordination; assisting in the management of purchased referred care (PRC) transactions while submitting authorizations through proper channels.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
