About the Position: This position is located with the U.S. Army Research and Development Center (ERDC), Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory, Flood and Storm Protection Division, Coastal Observation and Analysis Branch (COAB) and is located at the Field Research Facility (FRF) in Duck, North Carolina. https://www.erdc.usace.army.mil/Locations/CHL/FRF/
Duties
Service and maintenance of vehicles and equipment with diesel engines and hydraulic systems operated in the marine environment
Diagnose and repair failures in diesel engines and hydraulic systems operated in the marine environment.
Operate vessels in the ocean and estuaries as part of coastal research activities. This includes operation of LARC V and Coastal Research Amphibious Buggy (CRAB).
Deployment and recovery of oceanographic instrumentation
Fabrication of specialized subsea equipment mounts using metal working and welding skills.
Operate equipment such as all-terrain forklifts, backhoes, and ATVs.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties
- May be required to travel 10% of the time.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing problems with diesel engines, experience maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing problems with hydraulic systems. Formal training and certifications are a plus, experience with deployment and recovery of oceanographic instrumentation in coastal environments, experience working on an oceanographic research vessel or commercial vessel, experience with rigging and marine operations, and maintaining and repairing small engines and outboard motors. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: One and a half years of college graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages. Must Submit Transcripts.
