This position is located in the Engineering Support (TEES), Substation Engineering (TEE), Transmission Engineering & Technical Services (TE), and Transmission Services (T) of Bonneville Power Administration (BPA). A successful candidate in the Engineering Technician (Electrical) position will serve as one of the Engineering Technician Leads providing electrical guidance in a wide range of professional engineering assignments for internal and external stakeholders.

  • This position does not support remote work. You will be required to report physically to the official reporting worksite as specified by the supervisor, but no less than 3 days per pay period.
  • This position requires a valid driver's license as a condition of employment. Traffic citations indicating poor driving habits may disqualify applicants
  • May be required to serve as Contracting Officers Representative for BPA grants and agreements; this duty includes additional training and certification.
  • A preliminary background check must be completed before a new employee can begin work. Current Federal employees or other individuals with an existing completed background investigation may not be required to undergo another background check.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level [GS-11] in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: experience in 1) developing electrical utility drawings using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) software; 2) assisting in developing electrical utility engineering standards, specifications, policies, and guides for CADD to support projects and 3) providing technical guidance to engineers, other technicians, and contractors. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Demands: The work is primarily sedentary. Some work may require periods of walking, standing, bending, climbing, or driving a motor vehicle in activities such as inspections of installed equipment and visits to construction sites and industrial, commercial, agricultural, and other business establishments. Employees may carry light items such as books, instruments, and other similar materials. The work does not require any special physical effort. Work Environment: The work is usually performed in field settings. The work area normally involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring safety precautions typical of power substations. Up to 100% travel may be required. Time-in-Grade: Current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement to receive consideration.
