Duties

You will assist electricians by performing the simpler and more routine duties of the electrical trade and working with the journey level electricians as instructed. You will assist in the removal, repair, and installation of electrical components and wiring. You will lift and carry tools, equipment, and electrical supplies. You will utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work environment.

Qualifications

The purpose of this position is to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to perform the full performance level of the target trade (Electrician WG-10) through a formal Apprenticeship Program. At the WG-02 level, you will be assigned to a journey worker who works with and instructs you in performing duties common to the trade in a safe, efficient manner. Detailed instructions are provided on new assignments along with close supervision and detailed review. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below This job has a screen-out factor which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Moderate lifting up to 40 pounds is required. If a heavier lift is required, it must not be attempted without assistance. Must be able to work at a rapid pace for a short period of time. Occasionally required to perform work by stooping, bending, and reaching while in cramped and uncomfortable positions and by walking, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolds to perform work at various heights. Normal vision is required. WORKING CONDITIONS: Some work is performed outside and may require exposure to prevailing weather conditions. Working conditions in this position vary with a portion performed in relatively pleasant surroundings and a portion performed on rooftops, in equipment rooms, under buildings, and in confined spaces. Subject to perform work in areas with high noise levels where ear protection is required. Working in very hot and cold environments, poorly ventilated and-lighted areas is occasionally required and in some instances work in these conditions is for the duration of the shift. The incumbent may be exposed to fumes, dust, dirt, grease, and oil, and is subject to the possibility of scrapes, cuts, bruises, contusions, bums, electric shock, and eye hazards.
