About the Position: Directs, coordinates and synchronizes installation garrison operations, training support, protection, mobilization & demobilization, force modernization, operational planning, and security in order to support the Soldiers, Families and Civilians of the greater Fort Liberty community.

Duties

Perform work in accordance with drawings, sketches, blueprints, specifications, specific instructions, and own knowledge of construction or needed maintenance/repairs. Repair and/or replace ammo collection boxes, wooden and metal bleachers, and all aspects of range buildings, sheds, and towers. Repair, maintain, and paint targets, signs, markers, latrines and other facilities located on assigned ranges. Fabricate and maintain standard and special wooden targets and structures by following standard measurements and specifications. Operate materials of sanders, pneumatic nail and staple guns, chain saws, and a variety of cutting saws to perform work.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

I have the ability to perform common adjusting, removing, and replacing mechanical components on automated and manual target systems; and installing circuits, wires, and outlets. I can perform routine maintenance on target devices. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Knowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Use of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORT: Makes repairs and installations from ladders and in trenches, and where parts of the systems worked on are in hard-to-reach places. Stands, stoops, bends, kneels, climbs and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up tools, equipment and parts that weigh up to 45 pounds, and occasionally items that weigh up to 100 pounds with assistance. Is usually assisted when carrying heavier equipment for long distances. Work requires climbing up and down a steep flight of stairs to reach the 45 foot control tower to perform maintenance. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works primarily outside, in dirt, dust and mud. Is sometimes required to make repairs and installations outside in windy or cold weather. Is required to wear and/or use protective clothing and equipment in accordance with established health and safety regulations and SOP's. Exposed to dangers of live fire ranges, pyro-technics, laser frequencies and explosives. May be exposed to sulfuric acid when handling batteries used in operating remote controlled target devices. Is exposed to the possibility of abrasions, cuts, burns, and electrical shock. Simulators contain explosive charges equivalent to a 1/4 pound charge of TNT. Gun Fire simulator requires charging compressed gasses (oxygen) and flammable gasses (propane).
