This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U. S. Coast Guard, 8th District, Planning and Force Readiness Division, New Orleans, LA. 

Duties

In the position, you will be responsible for overseeing the conception, planning, coordination, and execution of all hazard/all threats contingencies including but not limited to: Area Maritime Security Planning (AMSP); Area Contingency Planning, Mass Rescue Planning; Salvage and Recovery Planning; Continuity of Operations Planning; Combatant Commander Planning and Operations Planning

Requirements

  • This position requires some travel.
  • This position requires a Secret clearance.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This position may require a one year probationary period.

Qualifications

GS-12: one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal sector related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include: Overseeing coordination of preparedness activities including exercise development and conduct, planning, training, remedial action for full range of CG contingencies; creating CG planning/exercise publications, directives and Operations Orders; fostering relationships with appropriate intergovernmental preparedness entities to improve contingency planning and exercise development.    This experience must have demonstrated knowledge of management and organizational techniques and procedures applied to performing a variety of analytical studies and projects related to long-range planning sufficient to analyze and develop guidance and reports regarding preparedness planning for proposed hazard/threat contingency exercises and plans. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.  If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
