This Supervisory Health Technician (Dietetic) position is located in the Nutrition and Food service (N&FS) of the VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System at Aurora, CO. The incumbent works with N&FS information systems and is responsible for maintaining the systems and resolving issues as they arise throughout the medical center. The incumbent also works in the Nutrition Communication Center (NCC) as the NCC Coordinator.

Duties

Major duties include but are not limited to: Oversees daily work assignments to ensure completion of work in a safe, timely, and effective manner. Creates and reviews standard operating procedures (SOPs), performance standards, and technical and administrative competencies for support staff. Counsels employees, addresses informal complaints and grievances and recommends disciplinary action. Provides training, direction, and feedback to subordinate staff of technical, performance, and administrative issues. Evaluates training needs and establishes training schedules of mandatory and nonmandatory topics. Collects and analyzes data for quality improvement reports and makes suggestions for improvements. Consults with clinical nutrition staff to resolve issues pertaining to tray tickets and modified/special diets. Provides day-to-day oversight to menu selections, maintains menus and orders supplies for completing operations. Applies knowledge of modified diet therapies and medical nutrition therapies for health and a wide variety of disease states. Develops and updates nutrient database through analysis of menu items. Performs computer system updates as needed to ensure efficiency and accuracy of system. Troubleshoots and resolves electronic and paper menu issues. Work Schedule: Varying Hours -- Sunday - Saturday, 5:00am - 8:00pm Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/10/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) Specialized Experience for GS-07 grade: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. In addition to needing to meet the IOR you also must meet the following: You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience for the GS-07 grade: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Oversees daily work assignments to ensure completion of work in a safe, timely, and effective manner. Evaluates training needs and establishes training schedules of mandatory and nonmandatory topics. Consults with clinical nutrition staff to resolve issues pertaining to tray tickets and modified/special diets. Provides day-to-day oversight to menu selections, maintains menus, and orders supplies for completing operations. Utilizes multiple integrated computer systems and software applications. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience (Transcripts Required). To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 1 full year of graduate level education. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level (Transcripts Required). You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond a bachelor's degree and specialized experience, as described above, to meet the total requirements. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: CommunicationComputer SkillsEducation and TrainingFood ServiceManages Human Resources Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The majority of work is performed in an office setting or kitchen setting and involves everyday risks which require normal safety precautions typical of places such as kitchens, offices, meetings, training rooms, or libraries. The employee may, in certain instances, be exposed to contagious disease and interact with veterans who may have behavioral health issues. Work required to be performed in a kitchen setting may involve exposure to wet floors, and hazards of food processing and serving equipment.
