This position is located in the Division of Accounting Services, Office of Administration and Management, Accounting Section, Albuquerque Area Indian Health Service. The incumbent serves as an Accounting Technician (Accounts Payable), who performs a variety of technician duties related to Unified Financial Management System (UFMS) Accounts Payable module and in support of the Albuquerque Area Service Units, which encompasses hospitals, clinics, and Area Administrative departments and programs.
Duties
Reviews, examines, and processes accounts payable invoices, claims, and payment requests ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations and authorizing documents.
Obtains clarification or explanation from the vendor, acquisitions, or applicable Service Unit or program, for questionable claims.
Performs data entry of accounts payable invoices and payment requests into the Unified Financial Management System (UFMS).
Reconciles AP accounts with the service unit staff and vendors by utilizing UFMS and its reporting system to verify the accuracy.
Prepares reconciling worksheets or reports reflecting the examinations made, discrepancies noted, and the corrective actions required to adjust and balance the accounts.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: utilizing accounting software to record, store and analyze information; checking figures, postings, and documents for correct entry, accuracy and proper codes; complying with federal, state and agency policies, procedures and regulations; reconciling and reporting discrepancies found in records and performing general office duties, such as filling, answering telephones, and handling routine correspondence.

Have 4 years of education above the high school level.
OR
Have a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-05 grade level.
GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: utilizing accounting systems, standard accounting codes, classifications, and terminology sufficient to perform account maintenance and accounting technician support; accessing and extracting financial data; monitoring status of transactions to ensure accounts are up to date; compiling statistical, financial, accounting or auditing reports pertaining to accountable payable and receivables; and performing various administrative functions for assigned accounts.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
