The position is located in the Eye Care Line at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC) in Houston, Texas. The incumbent provides a variety of administrative and clerical activities to support the Administrator of the Eye Care Line, the Visor Program, Beaumont Outpatient Clinic, Conroe Outpatient Clinic, Humble Outpatient Clinic, Katy Outpatient Clinic, Lake Jackson Outpatient Clinic Lufkin Outpatient Clinic, and several other locations.

Duties

Responding to phone calls and secure messages; notifying patients of provider decisions and recommendations regarding their care. Routinely works with the team to accomplish the plan of care and enters appropriate information into the electronic record. Coordinates with the patient care team to optimize patient access to care, reviews clinic utilization by using various reports. Develops and maintains effective and efficient communication with patients, the interdisciplinary care team, and other agencies to coordinate the delivery of care. Monitors pre-appointment requirements to assure readiness for patient visit/procedure. Participates and provides input in problem solving on operational issues or procedures in team meetings. Completing provider orders; coordinating triage of unscheduled patients; tracking consult scheduling and completion. Scanning patient care information into the electronic medical record; and scheduling care via negotiated appointments with patients and providers. Performs office automation duties using software applications such as electronic mail, calendar, spreadsheets, and database, and integrates these types of software to generate specific working documents and forms. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/11/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Knowledge of the operations, MS Teams, Office products, VATAS, regulations, and principles. Operates personal computer terminal to prepare a variety of correspondence, reports, technical papers, charts, statistical tables, manuals, travel orders, messages and other documents involving the common terminology of the program. Process improvement experience and creation of resources to improve workflow highly encouraged. Ability to work with Veterans and colleagues in difficult situations that requires tact and strong communication skills. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Administration and ManagementCommunicationComputer Skills Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: No special physical qualifications are required to perform the work. The work requires the ability to move around the office and carry light items such as small boxes of files. Much of the work is performed viewing a computer monitor. There are no requirements for special safety precautions or protective clothing.
